About Johannah Racz
With a background in creative writing, Heliograph Communications’ principal and owner, Johannah Racz, delivers text that stands apart from traditional “business communications.” Her years of experience–since 2000–as a professional writer also give her the business savvy to devise the most effective messaging for the context—whether you want something clear and straightforward, like a product data sheet, or something energized and attention-grabbing, like a band bio.
Johannah Racz ‘s poetry has appeared nationally in such journals as Sycamore Review, Puerto del Sol, and Northwest Review. Her copywriting has been translated into a variety of languages and distributed internationally. She is a two-time winner of the Associated Writing Programs Intro Journals Award and was a finalist for the New Issues book award.

Johannah has taught fiction, poetry, and composition both on the college level and in one-on-one coaching sessions. Her experience giving constructive feedback, leading workshops and classes, and providing individualized coaching began in 1997 and continues to this day through Heliograph Communications’ creative writing coaching services. Johannah has worked as a professional writer, editor, and proofreader since 2000.
Born in Rochester, New York, Johannah graduated with honors in English and creative writing from Binghamton University in Upstate New York before earning her master of fine arts degree in creative writing at Colorado State University in Fort Collins.
“I’ve been writing nearly as long as I can remember,” Johannah remarks. “In early high school, it became clear to me that writing was my life’s work. From there, I explored the English language in perhaps its most concentrated form: poetry. This was an excellent preparation for my current work as a writing coach and freelance writer. Poetry taught me the essential principles of precision, structure, economy of language, and the nuances created through diction, syntax, and punctuation. As strange as it may sound, these skills directly applied to technical writing, copywriting, journalism, editing, and proofreading, and have greatly contributed to my abilities in those fields.”
About the Heliograph
Invented in the 1880s, the heliograph is an early example of solar technology. It enables long-distance communication using reflected sunlight to visually create the dots and dashes of Morse code. As the central image of this company, it is a metaphor for the process of channeling the light of creative inspiration, focusing it into a cogent and compelling communication, and broadcasting it to audiences near and far.
